“My work evolves from my observation of my immediate environment that I focus on and I respond to the images and marks upon the picture plane”.
"I enjoy drawing, painting, etc. in an “environment”. This “environment can be outside viewing nature or one where there is a human model. I believe these two “environments” create energies that I feel while drawing/painting. The Female Human Form gives me the inspiration for my drawings whether I am working in charcoal, water color, mixed media. The Female Figure captures my eyes which in turn “moves my hand and arm” to create “marks” on the surface describing the “spirit” of the Female Human Form. I RESPOND to the images and marks upon the picture plane. Thus, I work swiftly not to miss responding to all parts of my drawing. I often use the wet-on-wet technique using compressed charcoal, sponges, rags, etc. which allows me the flexibility to develop these drawings capturing the “spirit” I love using all kinds of papers whereby my medias take on exciting images and marks.
Being in these “environments” gives me a sense of being in “timelessness.'" -Lenice Colangelo
