Opening Reception - April 1, 2017 (7pm-9pm) , Collectors Club (6pm)
Patrice S. Nelson was born and raised in the American Midwest, in the prairie state of Illinois. Although she was born in Chicago, from a young age, Nelson was always hiking through prairies and forests with my amateur photographer, botanist father looking for rare native plants to identify and photograph. Nature has always been one of her greatest inspirations and conservation a concern. This collection is about the “Lost Gardens” of threatened and endangered America native species.
"When I draw, paint or make books, I use pencils, water colors, walnut ink, neon, metallic and regular acrylic paints. Also, I use stretched and unstretched canvases and watercolor paper with, sometimes images close to life-sized, down to small intimate images of life.
Thankfully, I was born with the gift of the ability to draw. From a young age, I've tried to grow that gift into a brave talent that illustrates a lifelong curiosity, love and contemplation of this life. There have been many twists and turns along the way. Isn’t all art a reflection and reaction to our lives?" - Patrice S. Nelson
